FAQ

Props & Prop Jacks: common questions

How far apart should props be?

It depends on slab thickness, the runners used and the prop's capacity at its working height. Typical slabs often use around 0.9–1.2 m spacing, but this must be checked for your slab. See our prop spacing guide and ask an engineer for heavy or thick slabs.

Does a prop carry less load when extended?

Yes. A prop is weakest near its maximum extension, so choose a size whose working height is in the middle of its range.

How long should props stay under a slab?

Striking time depends on the concrete mix, weather and span. Follow your engineer's or the code's guidance, and don't remove props early to save rent.
